Bioactive dressings are dressings that deliver substances active in wound healing, by delivery of bioactive compounds or constructed from materials having endogenous activity. These materials include hydrocolloids, alginates, collagens, chitosan, chitin, derivatives from chitosan or chitin and bio textiles. Bioactive dressings are aimed at delivering active substances(antibiotics, peptides, drugs, vitamins, growth factors etc.) to the wound environment to enhance the process of wound healing. Bioactive dressings such as hydrocolloids, sponges, wafers, foams, nanofibers, hydrogels, collagens, films are biodegradable, biocompatible, and can act as drug delivery systems for therapeutic agents such as nanoparticles, GFs, vitamins, antibiotics with improved wound healing.
